Tonight's Federal Budget is an honest Budget based on delivering fairness, security and opportunity for all Australians.
The crucial elements are:
- Stronger Growth to create more and better paying jobs - including delivery of continuing support for small businesses;
- Guaranteeing the Essentials - including securing Medicare, restoring the pensioner concession card, and tackling cost of living pressures by delivering energy security;
- Ensuring the Government lives within its means, with a plan to return the Budget to surplus by 2020-21.
There are positive measures to tackle housing affordability, to deliver vital infrastructure, toproperly fund the NDIS, and $18.6 billion in extra needs-based funding for our schools.
I am particularly proud, as Assistant Minister for Vocational Education & Skills, of our plan to establish a new Skilling Australians Fund to work in partnership with the States to deliver 300,000 apprenticeships.
There will no doubt be more discussion on the Budget measures over the next few days and I'd certainly welcome your feedback. If you missed it, you can read the Treasurer's speech or get a run down on the Budget here.
All the best,
