MAJOR WORKS UNDERWAY ON THE M1 UPGRADE
I am pleased to report that work officially began today on the upgrade between Mudgeeraba and Varsity Lakes from Exits 82 to 85.
This was the funding I promised and delivered at the last election and the Queensland Government finally agreed to last year - so it's great to get things underway!
I was joined by the Federal Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Cities, Hon Paul Fletcher, for a sod turning ceremony to mark the start of works (pictured below). There will be some lane closures and reduced speeds while the roadworks occur so I urge motorists to take care. It will be well worth it once they are completed.
It's a step in the right direction to ease M1 congestion
Last week's Federal funding commitment of a further $1 billion to ensure the M1 is upgraded from Varsity Lakes to Tugun, means we should be able to start planning now to ensure that the upgrade of the next section continues seamlessly.
The Federal Government has put the funding on the table - now it's up to the State Government to manage the project through to completion.
You can be assured that I will keep up the pressure so we can finally ease congestion on the M1 all the way to Tugun.
I'll keep you posted on further developments.
Until next month,
Karen Andrews MP - Federal Member for McPherson
