?Today is the Centenary of the Battle of Beersheba and I was honoured to officially dedicate a monument at the Mudgeeraba Lighthorse Museum. I encourage you to visit this fantastic local museum and, if you have any spare time today, read this excellent special report about this particular chapter in our nation's history.
It has been another busy month - and we've marked a few local community milestones: Coolangatta CWA turned 88, Ingleside State School in the Tallebudgera Valley celebrated 125 years, we had another successful McHappy Day and a fantastic Marymount College Fete - despite the rainy weather.
Our local business community, as always, has been proactive. I was pleased to attend the Varsity Lakes Small Business Forum, Gold Coast Women in Business Awards, and the Gold Coast Central Chamber of Commerce's Burleigh Business Forum. And it's very good news that the latest figures show we've had an excellent local take-up of our extended instant asset write-off for small business.
Local business and local residents alike will benefit from the certainty and stability offered by the new National Energy Guarantee announced this month.
Finally, staying with the local focus of this month's update, I invite you to consider donating to my Christmas Collection for local charity Baby Give Back, which I am launching next Monday. I know there are many worthy causes at this time of year, but this group do a fantastic job of supporting local families who need a helping hand. You can find details about what and how to give on my website.
Until next month,
