Karen Andrews 90 second Update Jan 31st 2019

It's great to have the Prime Minister back in Queensland and importantly he brought the entire team here for our first Cabinet meeting of the year on Tuesday in Brisbane.

The Prime Minister also gave an excellent speech outlining why building a stronger economy is all about people - and how we can afford to invest in more health care and infrastructure because of our responsible economic management.

The PM explained our commitment to keep growing the economy - which includes extending and increasing the very popular instant asset write off for small business. This is part of our plan to back small business and deliver another 1 million jobs on top of the 1.2 million created since we came to office.

In my own portfolio I've announced funding to back small businesses through helping start-ups and providing commercialisation grants.

The Prime Minister also announced an extra $243m funding for congestion-busting projects on south-east Queensland roads - including improving exits along the M1.This is in addition the $1 billion investment made in the budget last year to upgrade the M1 all the way to Tugun.

We are also seeing the benefits for the Coast of a stronger economy - with local unemployment falling to just 4.3%. So 2019 is certainly off to a very positive start!

Finally, nominations close soon for my annual McPherson Community Awards to recognise our many wonderful volunteers. If you know of someone worthy of recognition, please take the time to nominate them.

I'm looking forward to this busy election year. Now more than ever, it's crucial that we don't allow a Bill Shorten-led Labor Government to undo the gains we've made together.

As always, I'd greatly appreciate your support, feedback and input in 2019.

Kind regards,

Karen Andrews MP
